Western Australia’s synthetic grass specialists have been impressed to see the Water Corporation ramp up their campaign for households to conserve water. Following last year’s Target 60 campaign, which encouraged people around Perth and further afield to save 60 litres of water a day, home owners could have become less careful about their water use after a wetter winter than in many recent years.
Despite the wet winter though and the South West dams of the state has remained low, it is wise to be miserly when it comes to water usage. It is important to remember that 2010 was recorded as the driest winter ever experienced by Australians, leaving catchments very dry. After the rains came this year, they were largely absorbed by the ground soils, which then mean much more rainfall is needed for water to make its way towards the dams.
Luckily, the Water Corp is keen to remind people of this, upping the ante with their ‘Target Every Drop’ campaign, which helps households focus on things where they can save more water. The Water Corp is reminding us that each litre of water that is being saved now is already a litre reserved for the coming future, and will lessen the need to draw on dams and underground water sources.
Water Corp is prudent to point out that the largest users of the scheme water are the households (71%), this means that they have the greatest contribution in terms of saving water.
When trying to cut your excessive use of water (and thus your water bills) the first place you should look is in the garden because 44 per cent of water used in households is applied for outdoor use. That’s why synthetic grass specialists, Green Planet Grass, are so proud of the impact artificial lawns can have on our water footprints. Replacing a 50m2 buffalo grass natural lawn with Australian-made synthetic grass can save you around 200 litres a day. Undoubtedly, it can go a long way to improving sustainable use of water around our homes.
Considering Green Planet Grass has installed thousands of synthetic grass lawns since 2008, we believe that we are making a significant contribution to water conservation in our state and we are keen to support other water saving initiatives that would help preserve our precious resource.
