- Spray your existing lawn with a weed killer (optional); allow suitable time to take affect. Re-spray if required. Remove all the dead grass, weeds, organic matters and debris.
- Confirm the desired height of the top of the synthetic grass and calculate the excavation of natural soil required. For small areas hand digging will suffice, for larger areas the use of machinery will save many hours of manual work. Allow for laying grass along hard edges (eg: pathways, timber retaining edges) and smooth edges. The nominal depth for a landscape grass base is 50mm – 100mm depending on the application of the area. Levels should be established.
Excavation of area – by hand or machine
Allow for grass height when installing next to timber edges - The sub base should be excavated, compacted and leveled. If suitable the base should be graded to allow for horizontal drainage to a garden bed area. Now you can prepare for the synthetic grass base construction.
