Why Save 60, You Can Save 200?

Synthetic Grass specialists are urging Perth residents to consider artificial lawns as a central theme in their bid to save water at home in the face of the impending drought.

Western Australia’s Water Corporation is campaigning for householders to cut their water use by 60 litres a day due to the second lowest winter rainfall in recorded history.

It is rarely easy to maintain that level of discipline in Perth’s arid conditions and the Water Corporation is asking residents to save to ten per cent of the regular domestic water consumption. If the target is not reached then the Water Corporation is threatening severe water restrictions next summer.

Residents are only permitted to use garden sprinklers two days a week at present and the Water Corporation estimate that reducing lawn irrigation by one minute per session saves on average 130 litres of water.

Of course, the amount of water used to irrigate gardens varies greatly with the size of lawns and efficiency of sprinkler systems. What is clear however, is that traditional lawns are incredibly thirsty in such a hot, dry climate but synthetic grass specialists in Perth are reminding local people that artificial lawn can have a massive impact on preserving water around the home.

Green Planet Grass, Perth’s leading supplier of synthetic grass and lawns have been advised that a moderate lawn of 50m2 will consume 73,000 litres of water per year – that is 200 litres per day!

Therefore installing synthetic grass will allow you to ‘save 60’ – and much, much more – without you even having to think about saving water.

Managing Director of Green Planet Grass, Jeff Dennis, said: “One of the major benefits of synthetic grass is that there is no need to water your lawn ever again. In Western Australia people with traditional lawns use a vast quantity of water to keep their lawns green in the summer but we have a solution that keeps your lawn green all-year round regardless of the weather. Better still it will never need a drop of water to keep it in good condition.

“While we are the synthetic grass specialists in Western Australia we are also dedicated to being ‘waterwise’ and artificial lawns provide a perfect way of saving much more water than most of the other measures people put in place to preserve our vital resource such as taking a bucket into the shower with them or using the washing machine less!”
